Indian Head Massage is also know as Champissage which is Hindi for massage of the head, neck and face. It originated in ancient Indian as part of their medical practice to balance the mind, body and soul to promote a long life. This treatment has been around for thousands of years and is still practiced today.
Although the treatment is applied to the upper body, collectively it represent a de-stressing programme for the whole of the body. In India, massage as been an important factor of family life, even babies are massaged everyday from birth continually until three years old . From the age of six they are taught to show love and respect by sharing massage with the family. It was also considered compulsory for a bride and groom to receive a massage with oils before marriage to help relax the couple, give them stamina and physical strength as well as promote health and fertility. Pregnant women are also given massage to help them cope with the physical and emotional demands of childbirth.
Many Indian women have been taught to massage other women in their families as part of a beauty treatment to promote healthy hair growth. They would often use natural products like coconut, sesame oil, almond, herbal oils even butter, milk mustard and henna. My method uses relaxing massage to the upper back and shoulders, while using ancient techniques to the neck, scalp and face, finishing with some chakra healing. This massage has a vast amount of benefits for the body and mind, including releasing tension, relieving jaw pressure, helping insomnia, promoting hair growth and many more.
The process includes sitting on a chair with a warm blanket, low light, calm music and aromatherapy oils burning for relaxing the mind. You can be fully clothed and choose to have no oils or you can have your back bear with a blanket at the front and I use oils to the body for a better relaxation technique. Oils can be added to the hair if required for scalp nourishment or hands can be dried before application to the head.
You can book either a 20 or 40 minute treatment online.
